Welcome to Wren and Willow Montessori, a nurturing micro school offering Montessori education for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. Our approach fosters independence, creativity, and a love for learning, while building meaningful connections among children, families, and educators. We prioritize a holistic approach to early childhood education, supporting each child’s intellectual, emotional, and social growth in an individualized environment.

  • What is a micro school?
    Wren and Willow Montessori is a small, community-oriented school designed to offer personalized education in a smaller setting. With just two classrooms, each accommodating 10 students, our school fosters close-knit relationships between families and teachers. This setting allows for tailored, hands-on learning and a focus on each child's unique needs and strengths. The home-like atmosphere encourages a supportive, nurturing environment where students can thrive academically and socially.
  • What are your hours?
    Wren and Willow Montessori is open from 7:30am until 5pm. Half-day, morning class hours are from 7:30am to 12pm and afternoon half-day class hours are 12pm to 5pm.
  • How do you communicate with parents about their child’s progress?
    We believe in open communication and provide regular updates through Brightwheel, an app that offers real-time pictures, videos, and notes. We conduct parent teacher conferences as needed, as well as provide dedicated time for you to speak with your child's primary teacher whenever you request.
  • Do you offer any support for children with special needs or developmental concerns?
    At Wren and Willow Montessori, we strive to create an inclusive environment that supports all learners. Our teachers work closely with families to tailor learning plans that address any special needs or developmental concerns, ensuring that every child receives the care and attention they need to thrive.
  • How are students transitioned between classrooms or age groups?
    Transitions between classrooms are thoughtfully managed by our teachers to ensure a smooth and supportive experience for each child. We take into consideration each child’s developmental readiness and emotional needs, providing plenty of time for adjustment. Because our school is a micro school which offers an open concept feel, children become very comfortable and close with all teachers and classmates, facilitating a seamless and positive transition.
  • What is the school’s philosophy on screen time and technology use?
    At Wren and Willow Montessori, we prioritize hands-on, experiential learning over screen time. Our approach emphasizes physical activity, social interaction, and tactile exploration, ensuring that children engage with the world around them in meaningful ways. We limit the use of technology, instead focusing on real-world experiences that promote creativity, independence, and critical thinking. We offer no screen time in any of our classrooms.
  • What ages do you accept for enrollment?
    Wren and Willow Montessori has two mixed-age classrooms serving children ages 6-weeks through kindergarten. Children may start their care at six-weeks-old and remain in the Willow House until their third birthday or until they show signs of being ready for the Wren House curriculum. At three-years-old, children will transition to Wren House where they can remain through their kindergarten year.
  • Does my preschool child need to be potty trained?
    We welcome children at any stage of their potty training experience and will work with parents and caregivers to ensure consistency for the child.
  • Do you offer any sibling discounts?
    Yes, we offer sibling discounts to make our programs more accessible for families with multiple children enrolled. Please contact the school for more details about our current sibling discount policies.
  • What will my child need to bring to school?
    Students in Willow House need to bring diapers, three sets of clean clothes (more if potty training), pacifiers, bottles, and foods. Toddlers napping on a cot may bring a small blanket and animal or 'lovie', and a water bottle as well. All items must be labeled, including bottles and diapers. Students in Wren House need to bring diapers or pull-ups is applicable, two changes of labeled clothing, (more if potty training), a water bottle, healthy foods and may bring small blanket and animal or 'lovie' for rest time. Additionally please bring a bag or small backpack for your child's belongings and ensure that all items are labeled with their name.
  • How are lunches and snacks handled?
    Lunches and snacks are brought from home. The school has ample space to refrigerate lunches and can warm foods as needed at lunchtime. Supplemental snacks will be provided by the school as needed and will be nutritional and diverse. We are a peanut free school.
  • What are your school holidays and vacation schedules?
    Our school follows a traditional year round schedule, with closures for major holidays and spring and winter break. These breaks follow the Wake County Schools calendar. We also have four staff work days each year. Specific dates for vacations and school closures are provided in the school calendar, which is available on our enrollment forms page.
